5 emails you need in your welcome sequence (after a quick brag!)

Hi [FORMATTED_FIRST_NAME GOES HERE],

Before I tell you about what to write in your email welcome sequence, I want to celebrate a win 🀩 I finished teaching my first semester at Point Park University in Pittsburgh!

Of course, I sent my students an anonymous survey on the last day. I love a good survey!

Most said their favorite part was learning about podcasting (woo hoo!). More than 1 was surprised to discover they like blogging and one said my class was "the highlight of their college career!"

Not gonna lie, that does make it all worth it!

OK... bragging celebrating over πŸ˜‰

Let's switch gears and talk about your email welcome sequence. You have one, right? πŸ’Œ

If your email welcome sequence isn't working for you then it needs some tweaks. I recently talked to my friend Kerrie Fitzgerald on the podcast and she explained the 5 emails you need to send to new subscribers.

And yes, pet businesses need this! No matter what kind of pet business you have, you need an email list to protect you from the whims of social media algorithms. And you need a welcome sequence to help new people figure out how you can help them.

You can listen to the full podcast episode with me and Kerrie, but this info is sooooo juicy that I want to write it all out in this email, too.

So here goes... these are the 5 emails you need to send to people when they first join your list:

  1. Introduction with your incentive (ex: discount code or freebie): The first email is crucial because it arrives when people are most excited about you. You can also feature your best sellers or top services in this email.
  2. Brand secret sauce: Highlight what makes your brand unique. Share special product or brand features (like eco-friendliness, charity programs, etc.) so your business stands out.
  3. Business mission or story (resend the discount code or freebie): Sharing the story of why you started your pet business creates a connection with your new email subscribers. This builds your "like and know factor".
  4. Social media follow-up: Directing subscribers to follow you on social media creates a sense of community and connection. Direct them to the platform where you’re the most active so they can DM you or browse your virtual "catalog" of posts.
  5. Social proof and testimonials (last push for the discount code): Include social proof and testimonials in the 5th email to reinforce your products or services. This builds your "trust factor".

In your email provider (like ConvertKit), you should set this up as a sequence so that new subscribers automatically get these emails.

The first email should go out immediately. The others can drip out every 1-2 days.

Still need help with your welcome sequence? I'm here for you! Set up a 1-on-1 strategy call with me and we can plan, write and set up your email welcome sequence together. It's a lot to do in 45 minutes, but I believe in us!

I have a few openings next week and again starting mid-May.

Happy emailing!

P.S. In case you can't tell... the Q2 theme here is EMAIL MARKETING! If you're tired of Instagram glitches and running on the content creation hamster wheel... this is just what you need to feel excited about marketing your pet business!
